2026 Honda Prelude Hybrid Jellybean

If you’re not a Honda aficionado, you may be surprised to hear that the Prelude nameplate goes back to 1979, when it emerged as a sporty offshoot of the Accord, with two doors and just two seats in the back. The reborn Prelude preserves that classic 2+2 interior, along with a racy design and some mechanical upgrades. What’s different from the first five Prelude generations, though, is the powertrain: this incarnation is a hybrid that uses a dual-electric motor/four-cyclinder engine powertrain to make 200 combined horsepower.

Honda has also graced this alluring coupe with its exciting S+ Shift feature, which simulates gear changes in the direct-drive automatic transmission to appease driving enthusiasts who are nostalgic for shifting manually. Adaptive dampers, a dual-axis front suspension, a multi-link rear suspension, and other components shared with the Civic Type R also contribute to the upgraded handling, as do electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and Brembo front brakes. Another element that wasn’t found on those 20th-century Preludes was the abundant tech, from the Honda Sensing driver-assist suite to the Google built-in infotainment setup. Those amenities come standard, along with wireless device charging, wireless smartphone connectivity, and Wi-Fi hotspot access.
