Model year 2025 marks the return of the gas-electric Civic, which was initially manufactured from 2003 to 2015. Honda has revealed some production stills that showcase what the newest iteration has in store aesthetically. While it’s still considered part of the 11th Civic generation (which began in 2022), the 2025 Civic Hybrid will show off a few differentiating design elements: a wider lower air intake, thinner corner intakes (resembling those on the Civic Type R), and a redesigned grille that’s not quite as pointed as its predecessor’s. Judging by Honda’s spec pictures, the ’25 Civic Hybrid also appears to flaunt a new set of wheels with Pirelli P Zero summer performance tires.
We can reasonably expect the 2025 Civic Hybrid to be outfitted with the same powertrain found in the Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid. If that’s the case, it will be made up of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor that combine to unleash 204 horses. The gas-only Civic’s 1.5-liter turbocharged engine is less robust at 180 hp, so this would signify a noticeable boost in the nameplate’s current output.
While details about fuel economy have yet to be released, expect the ’25 Civic Hybrid to be competitive with its biggest class contender. That would be the Corolla Hybrid, which returns up to an EPA-estimated 53 mpg in the city and 46 mpg on the highway.
Honda tends to reserve its hybrid powertrain for more expensive trims and relegates the gas-only engine to the entry-level versions. It takes just a bit of sleuthing to deduct that this should also be true of the 2025 Civic Hybrid, since the distinguished Sport Touring badge is clearly shown in the production stills. Traditionally, the upscale Sport Touring trim has been exclusive to the Civic Hatchback, but nobody will really be surprised if Honda offers this trim in hybrid sedan form as well.
